DragonHeart Homes has partnered with Jamma Wellbeing, an organisation actively engaged in training prisoners to become mental health ambassadors. DragonHeart Homes will become the first construction company to collaborate with Jamma Wellbeing to adapt their existing mental health training—originally designed for prisons—into a custom Brain Smart® package tailored for the construction industry. Selected staff will undergo this training and become in-house mental health ambassadors, creating a support system for employees who may need assistance navigating mental health challenges.
Jamma Wellbeing provides practical mental health training that helps people understand the brain, build healthier coping strategies, and support others through safe, informed conversations—backed by their Brain Smart® approach.
Mental health affects us all in different ways, and everyone’s reasons for getting involved are personal. Below are the stories of our Mental Health Ambassadors and why they chose to step forward and support others.
“I wanted to become an ambassador because I believe in the power of safe conversations. Mental health is still a topic people struggle to talk about openly, and I want to help change that. If we can make it easier for people to speak up, we can also prevent suicide and save lives.”
“I’ve been through my own mental health journey and I know how difficult it can be. I wanted to become an ambassador so I can learn how to support others better, and help them feel less alone. If my experience can help even one person, it’s worth it.”
“People often want to open up but don’t know how to start. I became an ambassador because I want to learn how to have those conversations – the ones that make someone feel safe, heard, and understood.”
“I lost my wife, and during that time someone was there for me. That support meant everything. I want to be that person for others – to listen, to care, and to be a steady presence for anyone who needs it.”
“I went through depression and alcohol dependency and attended AA to get help. The support I received made a real difference, and now I want to pass that help on to others. If I can support someone before they reach their lowest point, it could change their life.”
“I suffered with depression for a long time. When I finally opened up, it felt like a weight had been lifted. I want to help others experience that same relief by encouraging honest conversations about mental health.”
Mental health matters, and every conversation has the power to change a life. We’re here to support each other, and to make it easier for people to speak up, reach out, and ask for help.
DragonHeart Homes recently welcomed back the team from Jamma Wellbeing and worked alongside Offset Films over two days to capture three powerful, real-life mental health stories shared by colleagues.
Captured on site at Dragonheart Homes factory, along with supporting b-roll footage, these stories will help shape the next phase of Jamma Wellbeing’s Brain Smart® training programme, ensuring it is relevant and impactful for the manufacturing, construction, and building sectors.
DragonHeart Homes is proud of its Mental Health Ambassadors for speaking so openly. Tackling stigma isn’t always easy, but their commitment shows how Dragonheart Homes is creating meaningful change across our workforce and beyond.
